Sky blue crafts

15 minute Craft planner

You will need:
A hula hoop
Garden netting
String
‘How to attach the netting’ instructions (see Printables)
Blue fabric to cut up or blue J-cloths if you don’t have any fabric

How to prepare:
Attach the netting to the hoop using the string. Cut the fabric or J-cloths into long strips about 2 cm wide. You will need around six or seven strips per child.

How to make:
1. Place the hoop with the netting attached in the middle of a low table.
2. Demonstrate how to tie one end of a piece of fabric to the netting then weave the other end in and out of the holes.
3. Give each child a strip and help them to weave it into the netting. You could either allow the children to do this in a random fashion or follow a pattern.
4. When the hoop is full of fabric, cut the string and trim the netting to make a mat or wall hanging.

Sparkly playdough

Beware of allergies - make sure it is safe for the children in your group to handle the food used in this activity.

You will need:
Either shop-bought or homemade blue playdough (see Printables for playdough recipe)
Blue, silver or gold glitter
Playdough tools and cutters
Paper plates

How to prepare:
If you are using homemade playdough make it in advance following the recipe. Keep the playdough in an airtight container to stop it drying out.

What to do:
1. Encourage the children to write their names on a paper plate and place the plates to one side.
2. Give each child a piece of playdough. Allow each child to sprinkle a teaspoonful of glitter onto their playdough. Encourage them to mix and knead it into the dough then create shapes and patterns with their sparkly dough.
3. At the end of the session place the children’s playdough on their paper plate to take home.
