A hidden coin
15 minute Craft planner
You will need:
A spade template (see Printables)
Balloons (preferably green)
Enough pennies for one per child
Colouring pencils and/or felt-tips
Metallic ribbon or string
Cardboard – cereal box card would be ideal
How to prepare:
Print and cut out sufficient templates for one per child. Make a sample ‘hidden coin’ so the children know what they are making.
How to make:
1. Colour in your spade template and mount it on a piece of cardboard. Cut out the template.
2. You may want to add some kitchen foil to your spade as shown in the picture. Stick the foil in place using the glue stick.
3. Push the penny inside a deflated balloon. Ask an adult to help you inflate the balloon using the pump. Tie a knot in the balloon. Tie one end of a 50 cm strip of metallic ribbon or string to the balloon.
4. Stick or tie the other end to the handle of the spade.
Now that your craft is complete, try spinning your penny inside the balloon; hold the balloon with both hands and move the balloon in a circular motion – before long your penny will be whizzing around the inside of the balloon.
