Sugar and mud hand scrubs

15 minute Craft planner

Beware of allergies – make sure the children in your group can handle the food used in this activity.

Explain to the children that the scrubs are intended for cleaning and softening hands - not for eating.

You will need:
Ground (not instant!) coffee granules
Sugar
Olive oil
Lemon juice
Honey
‘Sugar and mud hand scrubs’ labels (see Printables)
Mixing bowls
Teaspoons
Measuring spoons
Paper towels
Towels
Hand-washing facilities or a bowl of warm water, and towels
Scissors
Colouring pencils
Sticky tape
Plastic shot glasses

How to prepare:
Before the session print sufficient ‘labels’ for the children in your group.

Sugar hand Scrub

How to make:

1. Cut out and colour in a label.

2. Attach your label to a plastic shot glass using a small amount of sticky tac.

3. Mix together 1 teaspoon of sugar with ½ teaspoon of honey.

4. Add a squeeze of lemon juice to your mixture and mix well.

5. When you are happy with the consistency of your scrub spoon it into your prepared pot.

To use your scrub, gently rub a small amount between your hands then wash off with warm water. Dry your hands on a towel. Your hands should now feel soft and smooth.

Mud hand Scrub

How to make:

1. Cut out and colour in a label.

2. Attach your label to a plastic shot glass using a small amount of sticky tac.

3. Mix together 2 teaspoons of coffee and 2 teaspoons of olive oil or water.

4. When you are happy with the consistency of your scrub spoon it into your prepared pot.

To use your scrub, gently rub a small amount between your hands then wipe it off with a paper towel. Wash your hands in warm water and dry on a hand towel. Your hands should now feel soft and smooth.
