Week 2 objective: to discover that because Christians believe that the Bible says what God wants it to say it is called ‘God’s Word’ or ‘The Word of God’.

Game - 7 mins
Aim: to begin to think about choosing words and writing them down.
You will need: category sheets (see Printables), the alphabet textboxes (see Printables), a stop-watch or timer, a small cloth bag or a large envelope, pens and pencils.

Before the session print enough category sheets for one between two or three children. Print and cut out the alphabet textboxes and place them in the bag or envelope.

Depending on the size of your group divide the children into two or three teams. Give each team a category sheet and a pen or pencil. Ask for a volunteer to pick a textbox from the bag or envelope and show the letter to the group. Explain to the children that they need to think of a word beginning with the selected letter for every category on their sheet. The children have sixty seconds to think of all twelve words. When their time is up encourage the children to add up their scores. Explain that for every correct answer they receive one point, but if it is an original word that nobody else thought of they get a second point. The team with the highest score is the winning team. Ask for a second volunteer to pick a second letter and play the game again using the second set of categories. If you have time play the game a third time.

Talk about - 6 mins
You will need: a large sheet of paper or a whiteboard, marker pens, a Bible, a history book, a poetry book, an instruction book  and a letter.

Underline the phrase ‘Every word that God speaks’. Remind the children that during the game they worked together in their groups to think of words.

Show the children a Bible and the other books. Explain that the Bible is a collection of history books, poetry books, instruction books and letters about God.

Explain that the Bible wasn’t written by one person: it was written by over 30 writers. However, although people wrote the words down, God guided the writers and showed them by his Holy Spirit what to write. Everything written in the Bible comes from God. Christians believe that the Bible is a very special work of the Holy Spirit and it says what God wants it to say. Because Christians are so sure that what the Bible says is what God says, we call the Bible ‘God’s Word’ or ‘The Word of God’.

Song - 2 mins
