The Children’s Bible in 365 Stories by Mary Batchelor, page 370
The disciples did not realise that these were their last few hours with Jesus before he was arrested. There was so much about to happen that it was too difficult for the disciples to understand what would take place. But one day, with the help of the Holy Spirit, they would understand and they would help Christians all over the world understand about Jesus life, death and resurrection too.

4. Story activity - 6 mins
Option 1 - Enjoy the puzzles in this week's Dead Sea Comic Caper (see Printables)
Option 2 - Attempt the word challenge.
You will need: the ‘Word Challenge answer sheet’ and ‘a list of clues’ (see Printables).
If you have a large group, copy the lines and spaces from the answer sheet onto a large piece of paper or white board. Work through the list of clues in the order they appear on the sheet i.e. start with ‘The disciples were _ _ _ _ to understand.’ Write the missing words on the answer sheet as the children give their answers. After recording all ten missing words – the first letters of all the words should spell ‘Holy Spirit’. Write the word ‘The’ on the sheet too and explain that Jesus promised the disciples that he would not leave them on their own. He promised that he would sent the Holy Spirit to be a friend and Helper. He would stay close to the disciples giving them strength and encouragement. Explain that Christians believe that the promise is for us too. The Holy Spirit is our friend and Helper. He will stay close to us giving us strength and encouragement.
5. Reflective prayer - 2 mins
Thank you Father God that Jesus didn’t leave his disciples without first preparing them for the night ahead. After Jesus was taken away, we imagine the disciples trying hard to remember what he said in the garden. Perhaps they remembered Jesus’ words ‘trust in me’ or his promise to meet them again.
Although the next day would be terribly sad we now know that the disciples would soon be filled with great joy.
Father God, help us to remember all that you have said to us. Help us to think back to the times when we have read stories in the Bible that have encouraged and helped us to learn more about you. Help us to listen carefully even when we find things difficult to understand. Amen
