1. Setting the scene - 2 mins
Find the New Testament section in a Bible.

You might like to look in the Book of Revelation to find John’s description of Jesus when the Holy Spirit showed him Heaven. Take a look at Revelation 1:12–16.
2. Starter question - 1 min
Have you ever imagined what Jesus looked like when he lived with people? Day after day the disciples were with Jesus, they ate together and talked together, they watched him heal the sick and care for people – they knew exactly what he looked like. But one day, when Peter, James and John were with Jesus they saw that he looked different – it was still Jesus but his face and clothes had changed.

4. Story activity - 6 mins
Option 1 - Enjoy the puzzles in this week's Dead Sea Comic Caper (see Printables)
Option 2 - Shiny faces and shadows
You will need a torch
Encourage the children to sit in a circle. Show the children how they can shine the torch under their chin to light up their face (Make sure the children understand that they must not shine the torch in their eyes or anybody else’s). Allow the children to pass the torch around, taking it in turns to shine it under their chin. While their face is lit up encourage them to name a characteristic of Jesus – such as kind, peaceful, fun, friendly. If possible find a suitable piece of music to play in the background while the children pass the torch around.
If you still have time at the end of the session spend some time making silhouette heart shapes with your hands while somebody else shines the torch onto a wall, creating a shadow-effect.
5. Reflective prayer - 2 mins
Father God, thank you that on the mountain you gave Peter, James and John a glimpse of your wonderful glory. We imagine the three disciples’ amazement as they saw Jesus’ face change and his clothes begin to shine.
We remember that, day after day, the disciples spent time with Jesus; they walked together and ate together, they watched him heal the sick, comfort the lonely and even bring people back to life. However until that day they had not seen your wonderful glory with their own eyes. Father help us to remember that as well as having Jesus as our friend and knowing his power and great love, one day we will see your wonderful glory when we finally meet Jesus in Heaven. Amen.
